KCWA Community Restoration Nursery & Tool Library

Our new Community Restoration Nursery & Tool Library is the heart of Kula’s future. Here, native plants will be nurtured and grown, ready to replenish our watersheds and protect against wildfires. Community members will tend to the plants, learn from one another, and borrow tools to participate in wildfire mitigation.

With help from the Maui Strong Fund of the Hawai’i Community Foundation, KCWA has purchased and built the structures that will become the home for many keiki plants. The nursery includes two 60-foot, steel hoop house structures, an outdoor area for workshops and other educational opportunities, and a customized 40-foot storage container to support nursery materials storage and a small office for the nursery manager.

We’re happy to report that we have recently received a grant totaling $103,000 from Rotary District 5000 Foundation’s Maui Fires Fund to complete the nursery and tool library, including irrigation, solar power, and a shade structure for workshops, outdoor workspace, and community gatherings.
